Al Fahidi: Dubai Before the Skyscrapers

Dubai Museum in Al Fahidi Fort (oldest building, 1787) tells the fishing-village-to-global-city transformation. XVA Gallery and SMCCU host art, cultural programs, and Emirati meals providing context the modern city doesn't advertise. Cross the Creek on an abra (1 dirham) to the Deira souks — Gold Souk and Spice Souk a ten-minute walk, and the saffron-frankincense-gold overload is the most Arabian experience in a city that increasingly looks like everywhere else.
